IT support cost in Winnipeg: managed IT cost built around your business
How much does IT support cost in Winnipeg?
It depends on your business, so the provider you are matched with gives bespoke pricing built around your actual needs. It is not a rigid per-user price that can be hard for a small business to budget around.
Tailored managed IT with 24/7 support from the provider you are matched with can be as low as $2,500 per month (CAD). The exact price depends on your needs, and this is a starting point, not a quote. You will be matched with a local Winnipeg IT support partner that does not outsource its staff to other countries.
This page explains what shapes a managed IT quote, compares that starting point with staffing 24/7 support yourself, and lists what to have ready so the callback gets you to a useful number quickly.
Why pricing is tailored
Two offices with ten people can need very different support. One may have a handful of laptops and cloud software. Another may run a server, specialized equipment and strict privacy obligations. A single per-user figure cannot reflect that, and it can leave a small business paying for things it does not need. Tailored pricing starts from what your business actually has and does.
What would 24/7 support cost if you hired your own staff?
For comparison, here is our estimate of what it would cost to employ your own people to cover support around the clock. This is our arithmetic, not a quote, built on sourced wage and payroll figures. It counts wages and employer CPP and EI only. It leaves out benefits, workers’ compensation, equipment, training and management, and it is not a like-for-like comparison with the provider’s price, which depends on your needs.
- Hours to cover: 24 hours × 365 days = 8,760 hours a year.
- Productive hours per person: we assume 1,800 to 2,000 a year for one full-time employee, after vacation, holidays and sick time. This is our assumption.
- People needed: 8,760 ÷ 2,000 = 4.4, and 8,760 ÷ 1,800 = 4.9. That is about 4.4 to 4.9 full-time people.
- Wage: the Job Bank median for user support technicians (NOC 22221) in the Winnipeg Region is $26.00 an hour, from Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey for 2023 to 2024.[3] We assume each person is paid for 2,080 hours a year (40 hours × 52 weeks), which is $54,080 a year.
- Employer payroll costs (2026): employer CPP is 5.95% of earnings above the $3,500 exemption, which is about $3,010.[5] Employer EI is 2.282% of earnings (1.4 times the 1.63% employee rate), which is about $1,234.[6] That brings one person to about $58,300 a year.
- Team cost: 4.4 to 4.9 people × about $58,300.
| Option | Per month | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| Your own 24/7 team: wages plus employer CPP and EI, our estimate | about $21,300 to $23,700 | about $255,500 to $283,800 |
| Tailored managed IT with 24/7 support from the provider you are matched with | can be as low as $2,500 | can be as low as $30,000 (12 × $2,500) |
Two notes on the estimate. The Job Bank median for network technicians (NOC 22220) in the Winnipeg Region is higher, at $36.00 an hour,[4] so staffing with that role would cost more than the figures above. And Job Bank reports that 90.6% of Manitoba workers in the user support technician occupation receive at least one non-wage benefit,[3] which this estimate does not include. The $2,500 figure is a starting point from the provider, and your exact price depends on your needs.
What shapes an IT support quote
- Number of people and devices. How many staff you have, and how many computers, phones, printers and other equipment need to be supported. Remote and hybrid work matters too.
- What is already in place. Existing servers, network equipment, backups, security tools and documentation all affect how much work there is to do, and what can be kept.
- Security and compliance needs. Businesses that handle personal information have obligations under PIPEDA, which includes keeping a record of every breach for two years.[1] Manitoba health clinics must also have a written agreement with an IT provider that handles personal health information under PHIA.[2] The more you need to protect and document, the more that shapes the service.
- Support hours. Business hours only, extended hours or after-hours cover are different commitments, so your quote reflects the hours you need.
- Projects versus ongoing work. Ongoing support, such as a help desk, monitoring and patching, is different from one-off projects such as a Microsoft 365 migration, an office move or a new network.
What to have ready before the callback
You do not need exact answers. Rough ones are enough to get started.
- People: how many staff, and how many work remotely or in more than one location.
- Devices: roughly how many computers, phones, printers and other equipment you use.
- Software: Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, accounting, industry-specific applications.
- Equipment on site: any servers, a firewall, Wi-Fi equipment or specialized devices.
- Your current setup: who looks after IT today, and what is working or not working.
- Compliance: whether you hold personal information, or personal health information under PHIA.
- Hours and priorities: when you need support and what worries you most, whether that is downtime, security or a coming project.
How a tailored quote works
- You request a callback. Send the short form below or call. Requesting a callback does not oblige you to buy anything.
- The local partner contacts you. You are matched with a local Winnipeg IT support partner that does not outsource its staff to other countries. It asks about your people, devices, software and priorities.
- The provider builds a proposal around your answers. It should set out what is included, what is not, and how projects and extra work are handled.
- You review it. Ask for scope, pricing and exit terms in writing, and take the time you need to decide.
Questions to ask about any quote
- What is included in ongoing support, and what is excluded?
- How are projects and out-of-scope work handled?
- What are the response targets for urgent and routine requests?
- What are the contract length and exit terms?
- Who holds the administrator passwords and documentation?
The checklist for choosing an IT company expands each of these, and the Managed IT for small business page explains what ongoing support generally covers.

Frequently asked questions
How much does IT support cost in Winnipeg?
It depends on your business. The provider you are matched with builds pricing around your actual needs rather than a fixed per-user price, and tailored managed IT with 24/7 support can start from $2,500 per month (CAD). The exact price depends on your people and devices, what is already in place, your security and compliance needs, your support hours and whether you need projects as well as ongoing support.
How does that compare with hiring my own 24/7 support staff?
Covering 24 hours a day, every day of the year takes roughly 4.4 to 4.9 full-time people. Using the Government of Canada Job Bank median wage of $26.00 an hour for user support technicians in the Winnipeg Region, plus employer CPP and EI, our estimate is about $21,300 to $23,700 per month, or $255,500 to $283,800 per year, before benefits and other costs. This is our own arithmetic, shown step by step on this page, and is not a quote.
Why is there no price list on this site?
Two offices of the same size can need very different support, so a single published price would not fit most businesses. A short callback lets the provider ask about your setup and put a tailored quote together.
Who will I be matched with?
A local Winnipeg IT support partner that does not outsource its staff to other countries. Scope, pricing and any agreement are between you and the partner, and you should ask for them in writing.
What should I have ready before the callback?
A rough count of staff and devices, the main software you use, any servers or on-site equipment, what you currently do for IT support, any compliance obligations and the hours you need covered. Approximate answers are fine.
Does requesting a callback commit me to anything?
No. Requesting a callback does not oblige you to buy anything.
